The City of Olney employs a full-time
Code Enforcement Officer/Building Inspector.
Mike Mitchel has been serving as City Code Enforcement
Officer/ Building Inspector for the City of Olney
since 1996.
Building
permits are required for any structural work if
the roof or foundation lines are changed. Demolition
permits are required when any structure is torn down.
Permits can be obtained at City Hall, 300 S. Whittle,
Olney, IL 62450. Four to five working days are needed
to have a permit approved.
The City Council adopted in November 2006 the 2006
International Building Code, 2006 International Residential
Code, 2006 Internatioanl Property Maintenance Code,
2006 International Energy Conservation Code, 2006
International Existing Building Code, 2006 International
Fire Code, 2006 International Fuel Gas Code, 2006
International Mechanical Code, 2005 NFPA 70, National
Electrical Code; 2004 Illinois Plumbing Code.
The Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Control Ordinance
are used to regulate building and developments inside
City limits and contiguous territory within one and
one-half miles of the corporate limits.
