| The City of Olney
is a vibrant community that offers many amenities
to its residents and visitors. The City owns three
lakes that are open to fishing and boating. Borah
Lake has a small beach for swimming. We have numerous
parks that offer picnicking, hiking, biking, skateboarding
and bird and squirrel watching. There are three golf
courses nearby. Our downtown and other commercial
areas offer plenty of opportunities to shop and dine.
The City’s swimming pool with diving board
and water slide will open on Memorial Day weekend.
We completed a minor renovation project on the pool
and have hired a new pool manager. We are completing
renovations to the East Fork Lake sail boat launch
on Silver Road and next year we will be extending
the boat launch and replace the docks on East Fork
Lake in Rotary Park. A new baseball diamond in Musgrove
Park will be ready for use this summer and we are
continuing to improve the diamonds in the City Park.
We are also developing a 116-acre industrial
park on the south east side of the city. The park
will have rail access, a one million gallon water
tower and water and sanitary sewer service. The City
is receiving a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce,
Economic Development Administration in the amount
of $1,825,000 to help pay for the public improvements.
The City Manager is appointed
by the City Council and is responsible for administering
the City's ordinances. The City Manager recommends
and establishes such administrative measures as are
necessary to carry out the City Council's policies
and directives in the most efficient and economical
manner. The City Manager plans, organizes, and directs
the activities of all municipal departments. |
