Mission Statement
It is the mission of the Olney Fire Department to serve the Olney Fire Protection District, City of Olney and visitors by preserving life, property and the environment through the efforts of our dedicated personnel.

Services
The Olney Fire Department provides fire prevention, suppression and investigation services.  The department is responsible for all rescue calls within Richland County and has an active dive rescue team that provides services to several of the surrounding counties.  The department is a regional Hazardous Materials Operations team for Homeland Security and responds as requested.

Personnel
The Olney Fire Department has a career Chief and two career firefighters.  The Fire Chief and firefighters work a 24/48 shift schedule.  The department also has 28 Paid-On-Call (POC) firefighters who live throughout the city.  Three of the POC firefighters are squad leaders and six are stand-by drivers.  All firefighters are notified of a call by pager with the POC firefighters, except the drivers, responding directly to the scene.  Among the POC firefighters there are three squad leaders.

Information
The Olney Fire Department is the municipal fire department of the City of Olney.  The Olney Fire Protection District which includes the townships of Olney, Preston, and Madison have a contract with the City of Olney to provide fire protection to them.  The area of coverage is between the east side of the 800 East Road and the west side of the 1500 East Road, and from the south county line(000North) to the north county line(1900 North). There are also several parcels of property on the east side of the 1500 East Road which have annexed in to the Olney Fire Protection District. The Olney Fire Protection District covers approximately 140 square miles.  There are written mutual-aid agreements with the Noble Fire Protection District, Claremont-Bonpas Fire Protection District, Wade Fire Protection District at Newton, Oblong Fire Department, Sumner-Christy Fire Protection District, West Salem Fire Department, and Clay City Fire Department.  The Olney Fire Department is also a member of MABAS Division #54.  The City of Olney has adopted the 1987 BOCA Fire Prevention Codes.  The Olney Fire Department has an ISO rating of 5 for the city, and all areas in the fire district 1000 feet or less to a public fire hydrant and 5 road miles or less from the firehouse. Anything beyond that up to 10 miles will be a class 9.
