Mission
Statement
|
| The men and women of the Olney Police
Department are a team of caring law enforcement professionals, who
strive for excellence in the delivery of service to the citizens
of Olney. Our mission is to protect the innocent from
violence, prevent and investigate crimes against persons and/or
property, and successfully quite disorder against the peace and
dignity of the city of Olney, Illinois. By doing so we seek
to safe guard and improve the quality of life in the community
where we work and live. |

Administration

|
The Olney Police Department employees a full-time Chief and
Administrative Assistant. The Chief is responsible for the
day-to-day operations of the department. |

Communications
|
The
Olney Police Department Communications Center is a state-of-the-art
command and control center vital to the efficient operations of the
department. The center also dispatches Fire and EMS services
throughout the city including Public Works Communications.
Telecommunicators are highly trained to effectively and efficiently
gather and disseminate information via a variety of systems. All
telecommunicators at the center are LEADS and EMD Certified.
The center has redundant systems so that it can always remain
operational. Some of which are the Enhanced 911 System, Computer
Controlled Radio Dispatch, Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management
Data System, and the Law Enforcement Agency Data System network. |

Detective
|
|
The Olney Police Department has one full-time detective who is
certified to disassembly methamphetamine laboratories and conducts
crime and scene investigations. The Detective also gives talks on all
drug related topics to community groups and area schools. |

Patrol
|
|
The patrol division is divided
into three regular and three relief shifts, each commanded by a
Sergeant or assistant chief. In addition to a lieutenant, each
shift consists of a sergeant and two patrol officers. 1900 -
0300 there are three patrol officers. |

Lake Patrol
|
Established
in the early 1960's, the Olney Police Lake Patrol has special duties
patrolling the city's 3 lakes, East Fork, Borah, and Vernor. East
Fork's 940 acres of water is an excellent location for boating and
fishing. Borah also has boating and fishing plus a beach area for
swimming. The Olney Police Lake Patrol monitors the city's lakes
during peak activity seasons. Its primary purpose is to promote water
safety and enforcing they city's laws governing the lakes. |

Crime Prevention
|
|
The Olney Police Department conducts safety talks with Safety Pup at
area preschools and the elementary school. There are programs
conducted at the elementary school during red ribbon week such as
giving talks about stranger safety. The department conducts
tours of the station and equipment for community organizations and
schools. |
