Alvin and Wenonah Musgrove, long time residents of Olney, donated approximately 20 acres of land to the City of Olney to be used at a park. In May of 1997 the Dr. Monte Musgrove Aquatic Center was opened. The Aquatic Center was named after Mr. and Mrs. Musgrove's late son.

Future plans for the Alvin Musgrove Park are currently being developed. The City of Olney did

receive a grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources for the planting of several trees in the park. These trees were planted during the 1998 season.

The most recent addition to the Park is the Wenonah Musgrove Recreation Area which features a playground area, shelter, lighted basketball courts and a soccer field.

The Aquatic Center is located at 305 E. Florence which is located on N. Silver Street near E. Mack Avenue and consists of a 395,000 gallon swimming pool complete with bathhouse, water slide and water umbrella. The facility provides an aquatic experience for people of all ages. The facility provides a zero depth entry area for easy access into the water.

The facility features a 190 foot water slide, an 8 lane, 25 meter competition area; a diving well area with 2, 1 meter diving boards; a concession area; a picnic area with picnic tables and umbrellas; a bathhouse with showers and lockers and a professional certified staff.

The operating season for the Aquatic Center is Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Operating hours are as follows:

Season passes can be purchased at the aquatic center. All persons purchasing a season pass will be required to complete a general information sheet.

FAMILY NIGHT

Family night is each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the summer. The family night is designed to entice parents to accompany their children to the aquatic center. Family night begins at 6:00 p.m. and continues until 8:00 p.m. In order for children to stay at the pool for the evening, they must be accompanied by their parent or a similar adult. The adult age designated for the aquatic center is age 19 and older. Any child not accompanied by their parent or similar adult must leave the aquatic center during this time.

ADULT LAP SWIM

An adult lap swim is offered daily at the aquatic center. Adult lap swim is designed for adults, age 19 and older. Adults may walk, run, swim or workout in the pool. Adult lap swim is scheduled from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. each day. No one under the age of 19 will be admitted during this time. The only exception to this rule will be staff members who wish to exercise for themselves. The admission fee for adult lap swim is $1.50 and season passes will be honored as well.

SWIMMING LESSONS

The Musgrove Aquatic Center does offer swim lessons sponsored by the City of Olney Summer Recreation Program. Instructors for these lessons may be comprised of pool employees and other individuals with proper certification. Two, 4 week sessions are offered each summer. Seven levels of swimming lessons are offered plus parent/tot classes. These lessons are offered Monday through Friday at various times during the morning. Sign ups for the various swimming classes usually take place during late April for both sessions and again in late June for the second session.

PRIVATE PARTIES

The aquatic center may be rented for the use of private parties. Reservations are made at City Hall, 300 S. Whittle, Olney, IL. A minimum rental is for 2 hours. The rental charge is $200.00 for 2 hours or $400 for 4 hours. The aquatic center may be reserved for parties on Sundays from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Monday evenings from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
